1. To start with, make sure that you buy the best quality shoes that you can afford. Not only do shoes that cost a little more look a whole lot better than the cheaper options on the market, and not only will they feel better on your feet, but they are also going to last a whole lot longer as they are generally of a higher quality. Think of expensive trendy men’s shoes as an investment. If you buy a decent pair, in the long run, it is going to cost you a whole lot less than a cheaper pair.
2. Here’s a tip you don’t hear often – only make sure that you wear your shoes when you really need to wear them. Tossing on your best pair of shoes to pop on over to the shop will quickly cause them to wear down. Only wear your best shoes when you really want to look your best!
3. If you can polish your shoes, make sure that you give them a good clean beforehand. If you do not clean them, you will, basically, be polishing dirt and grime into your shoes. This will, ultimately, cause them to look horrible.
4. If you have a nice pair of trendy men’s shoes, make sure that you head to your local cobbler at least once a year. You will want to have your shoes resoled as that will, without a doubt, be the quickest part of your shoe to wear down. If you can purchase a decent sole, your shoe will last years and years.
5. If you have leather shoes, again, take them to your local cobbler every so often. They will be able to stain the leather again for you. This will ensure that your shoes continue to look absolutely remarkable for as long as possible. Remember, colour fades and the only way in which to stop this process is by adding new colour to the mix. You could, obviously, try and stain the leather yourself, but it is not something we recommend as any mistakes are, obviously, going to be permanent!
6. Keep your feet clean and always wear socks (well this depends….check out our article on the sockless look here) when you put on your shoes! If you do not do that, it is likely that you will be causing the shoes to smell and this smell is going to be terribly difficult to remove. It is also going to be highly noticeable to everybody that you pass!
7. Finally, invest in a good shoe tree. There are plenty of them out there on the market. The shoe tree will ensure that any moisture in the shoe is sucked out and they will help your shoes keep their shape.
