Longines La Grande Classique Quartz Mens Watch L47094112
The Longines legacy began in 1832 when Auguste Agassiz began a small watch-making establishment. He joined forces with 2 other partners, designing and selling watches with special crown-wheel mechanisms, similar to the type used in famous Swiss watches. By 1867, the family-owned business was ready to open their first factory, named the Longines factory, in Saint-Imer. Later in 1867, the Longines company produced their first movement, the 20A. The 20A was a 20-line calibre with an anchor escapement and a special pendant winding mechanism.
The 20A was presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867 where it won its first award. Following the award, the Longines watch brand went main-stream and commercial production began. The company’s leader, Francillon took out a brand name with the Federal Office of Intellectual Property in 1880 and is now the oldest WIPO-registered brand name that is still in use today.
The Longines La Grande Classique Quartz Mens Watch L47094112 features a Stainless Steel case with a thin black leather strap. The fixed stainless steel bezel gives the watch a high-end appearance. A white dial with black hands and sharp Roman numeral hour markers is in stark contrast to the black leather strap. The watch includes the brand’s well-known quartz movement and a push / pull crown. It is water-resistant up to 30 meters, so swimming or wearing the watch while showering is not advised. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal dial cover completes the piece.
The watch is made in Switzerland and is sold in select countries throughout the world including the United States and many European nations. The watch comes packaged in a durable watch case, which can also be used for storage purposes. The square case is ideal for use when giving the watch as a gift, and its high-quality construction ensures that it will remain useful even after the watch has been shipped or given.
The watch case measures 33 mm in diameter. The size is suitable as a small men’s watch or as a large ladies watch, making it extremely versatile. However, the piece is marketed as a men’s timepiece, partially because of the rugged leather band and no-frills design. The simplicity of the watch helps to draw attention to its high-quality construction and fine craftsmanship, rather than to artificial décor.
For the best results and the longest life, the watch should be cared for regularly. Dusting and routine leather maintenance is recommended to maintain the condition of the watch. If the band wears, it can be replaced as needed. The watch operates with a non-standard battery, which is included. Batteries may be replaced by a qualified jeweller. Larger or smaller bands may be used to customize the fit, if needed.
